Sniper Elite V2 (SEV2) is a third person tactical World War II shooter. It is the sequel to Sniper Elite of 2005. Unlike its 2005 predecessor, the premise in SEV2 is different. The game is set towards the end of World War II, and the Germans are already defeated. You are an American sniper single-handedly crawling and creeping around ruined Berlin trying to stop the Russians from getting hold of assets related to the deadly and powerful V2 Rockets. And here is where the game derives its name.
Apart from the change in mission, this new version gives the player more saves per level. Unlike the 2005 version, SEV2 has well designed checkpoint system. The large, empty environments have also been replaced with richer, more tactically conducive environments. The number of missions has also been reduced but to the advantage of the player; it keeps the objectives varied while refining and condensing the scope of the game. This means the game becomes more exciting to the player.
Story Line
You're a lone American sniper sent to Berlin to stop the Russians from scooping up the Nazi scientists. Obviously, things won't go as planned and therefore you will have to improvise.
Playing the Game
Many challenges await the virtual sniper. You have to infiltrate an area undetected, stalk your prey, all while maintaining a constant line of sight - the hunt is tensed. The chase is thrilling: you have to pick off your targets, set traps, move to new positions and always steer away from your enemies. When realizing the kill you should take aim, calculate the distance, breathe slowly, and quickly squeeze that trigger. In a nutshell, Sniper Elite V2 inelegantly serves the many satisfactions of sniping, rendering it an uneven game for long-shot game lovers.
Each mission's beginning starts out stealthily. You are alone behind the enemy lines, relying utterly on your carried weapons and munitions for support. You can carry a sidearm and either a rifle or a submachine gun. Even though you can unlock other new weapons as you move on, the differences are minor. More critical, in this game, is the explosives you choose. Land mines, Trip wires, grenades, and dynamite all explode in different ways. Moreover, having sufficient firepower to set an additional trap or clear a bunch of advancing enemies is vital.
But before you start exploding things, you will need to stay quiet as long as you can. Crouch-walking may be tedious, but loud footsteps draw the attention of your hostile enemies, spelling doom for the sniper. You can always advance through, silenced shots, sneaky combat kills, and timed rifle shorts masked by the blast of bombs or tolling of bells. You can exploit the predictable movement of the guards, or you can attract them nearer for a cleaner kill.
While your pistol and SMG are of great help, your rifle is the major weapon. Head or torso shots often kill or incapacitate the enemy. You can perfect your targeting by exhaling slowly, this slows time and slightly zooms in. A true aim is then rewarded with one of the numerous gratifying camera shots. The camera trails the bullet giving you a clear view the impact moment. Sometimes you just observe the bullet go into and exit the foe's body. The more spectacular moments presents an X-ray view. You watch the bullet break through the bones and tear through organs in ghastly slow motion. These scenes are brutal and unwarranted (maybe too much for some), but to the excitement of a brutal sniper.
Once your foe catches wind of you, things get tricky. They close in, surround your position and sprinkle you with a barrage of bullets. Their unpredictable movements can make it harder to hit them. They are not that smart, though. Foot soldiers at times just dart back and forth, while counter-snipers sometimes fire constantly into the windowsill in front of them. You can take advantage of this.
On normal difficulty, you can easily take a sniper shot, use the visual assists to trace him, bring him to your sights, and kill him long before he can take you out. It isn't that easy, but you will be tempted to think that you can only die if you are careless. In the Hard difficulty, however, the balance swings the other way. If you are unable to locate a foe sniper, calculate the bullet drop and wind effect, and fire quickly, the enemy sniper will kill you. Even a foot soldier with an SMG can be lethal from a distance. Through enemy tagging off and aim assists, this difficulty makes caution and planning a must and sweeten successful shots.
The game has a lengthy campaign (over 10 hours) and can be cooperatively played online. The game types for two players, include: Kill Tally (you take on gradually increasing tough waves of fore) and Bombing Run (you radiate away from from a central point to recover airplane parts). These presents similar cooperative fun associated with two-player campaigns. However, Overwatch offers something a bit special. One player snips from an elevated position, while the other one foot soldier, spotting for the sniper and carrying out ground objectives.
The story plays out in perfunctory cut scenes and well-acted voice-overs giving a decent mission backdrop. Unsurprisingly, a much-better-looking version of the ruined Berlin, lovely skies and crisp details are enjoyed by PC players. But Xbox 360 players enjoy softer, much more muted visuals.
Sniper Elite V2 is the game where, through an x-ray cam, you can clearly watch your enemy explode from the high-velocity sniper shot. It's may not be the most polished game in terms of quality, but generally, it's a satisfyingly fun surprise.
